World Health Day 2017 Screening with Taman Desa Medical Centre

In conjunction with World Health Day 2017, a Health Carnival was held on April 22 by Taman Desa Medical Centre, otherwise known as TDMC by folks around Taman Desa. We are graciously invited and hosted by the management team to take part in the eye health screening. The event, themed “Health Carnival 2017”, was aimed to deliver a strong message to the locals on the importance of healthy lifestyle and care for elderly. As the event started as early as 8.30 in the morning, crowds starts to built up. Locals can be seen busily checking out every single booths that was held during that day which includes measurement of blood sugar level, blood pressure, body mass index, cholesterol, medical consultation and diet counseling.

While for our team, Miki Optometry, we are in charge of funduscopyand cataract screening. For those who are not familiar with the term “funduscopy”, is a test that allows an optometrist or ophthalmologist to see inside the fundus of the eye and other structure using an ophthalmoscope or fundus camera. As the event reached the peak during midday, a steady stream of locals folks especially those elderly people can be seen queuing patiently accompanied by their concerned family membersfor their turn to get their eye screened by us. As we answering questions away, curious bystanders or people who waiting for their turn to be screened can be seen trying to hear along and get into the conversation.

The whole charismatic environment starting to slow down by one o’clock in afternoon as it marked the ending of the event of the day. Last by not lease, mobile food trucks selling varieties of food and beverages can be seen parked outside of the hospital area and busily serving lunch for the visitors of the event.
